The Aurora is caused by the interaction between high-energy particles (ejected from our Sun during violent solar eruptions) and our Earth’s atmosphere.  These particles collide with atoms of Oxygen and Nitrogen in the atmosphere, causing the gases to experience a “quantum leap” and emit light energy. Green and red are from Oxygen atoms, while pinks and blues are from Nitrogen.
